OffBeat Sahyadri : Trek to(Peth Fort) Kothaligad on 29th of June 2013

Trek to(Peth) Kothaligad on 29th of June 2013

Deat OffBeaters ,
We invite you to one more OffBeat  route for hiking to Kothaligad on 29th of June 2013.

Ascend : Jamrukh
Descend : Ambivali

Majority of trekkers hike this fort from Ambivali village and descend back via the same route, we at offBaet Sahyadri would Rather take a different route to the fort ascending from Jamrukh Village and would descend to Ambivali Village.
This way we will be able to enjoy view of waterfall laden plateaus at both sides of the fort. And even will be avoiding crowd of other trekkers en route.

Trivia
Height : 1500 ft above msl approx
Grade : Medium
Base Village : Jamrukh

Peth or kothaligad is a small hiking destination near Karjat. The fort is also know as Kothaligad, because the way to the highest point of the fort has been carved by digging tunnel like spiral stairs through a single rock (In Marathi Kothala means contents in abdominal cavity, the stairs  are cut through the rock as if digging abdomen of the rock :D)

The view of the surrounding area leaves one spell bound.

Behind the fort is the highest plateau stretching from Kusur to Bhimashankar. number of waterfalls flow from here into the valley. The powerful wind blowing from the valley throws the water back to the top again, and here we can observe a reverse Waterfall at the same plateau.

Offbeat Sahyadri : Trek to Kalsubai on 23rd of June 2013

Trek to Kalsubai with OffBeat Sahyadri on 23rd of June 2013

Don’t you think touching the clouds at highest peak of Sahyadris in Maharashtra

would be an awesome way of kicking off this year’s trekking season

Come join us for a trek to : “Kalsubai”,

"Because there are no limits.."

Dear OffBeaters,

OffBeat Sahyadri invites you for the a trek to Kalsubai, highest peak of Maharashtra on 23rd June 2013, beginning on 22nd night from Mumbai.

Trivia

Type: Peak
Height: 1646 meters or 5400 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Difficult
Village: Indore.

Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadris in Maharashtra.

Kalsubai is situated in Ahmadnagar district at approximately 25-30 Km. South-East of Igatpuri. At the summit is a small temple of Kalsubai, which can seat just three people. At this superb height, the view is just marvellous. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attract one’s attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Patta, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madan, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen.

It usually takes 3 hours to reach the top from Bari. Soon after leaving Bari, a small stream is crossed followed soon after by a Hanuman temple. The route from behind this temple takes the hiker straight to the summit. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough efforts have been taken to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb.

Reaching the top is a real satisfaction. Reaching a top of the Everest is but a special one! As far as Maharashtra is concerned, reaching the summit of Kalsubai, the Everest of Maharashtra, should also be a special one!

Dear OffBeaters,

OffBeat Sahyadri invites you for the a trek to Kalsubai, highest peak of Maharashtra on 23rd June 2013, beginning on Saturday 22nd night from Mumbai.

This is the most usual route that most of the trekkers take to climb Kalsubai, but at Offbeat we are going to descend via this route.

We will be ascending Kalsubai via Indore route; a less trudged route. It takes 4 hrs
from Indore to reach the top. It’s a completely raw route with no ladders, no
constructed steps but only a foot trail to make your trekking more exciting.

Reaching the top is a real satisfaction. Reaching a top of the Everest is but a special one! As far as Maharashtra is concerned, reaching the summit of Kalsubai, the Everest of Maharashtra, should also be a special one!
